Blasts from the pasts

When I started this class I had no idea of the affect the stories would have on me and my thoughts. I remember reading bits and pieces of stories like Huck Finn and I can recall that when I had to read them I was in middle school or something along that time frame. Maybe I can't recall the entire book because I did not like to read then and maybe because my set of mind is way different now.
I think when it comes to novels people should have an open mind and not only feel what the author is saying but to allow themselves the chance to see what they they would do in the same situation. When I do that when reading a novel I get so much more from the novel and it allows me to remember many more parts of the novel. Before this class most of my novel were fantasy related. Now I find myself wanting to read more of these novels simply because these novels have a time and place that can be so much more real then any fantasy wish. I think that when a person can connect with a character it allows them to become part of the novel, the way Huck Finn goes through all of his ordeals and the people he met and how he made choices to get things accomplished.
These stories have really allowed me to think and consider the goings on and who they involve. Many I could tell I would not have ever read in high school simply because my I would not be interested. Maturity changes people in vast ways and these stories allow a person to see and feel and decide their own opinions. All the stories have been great reads to this point and I start the Great Gatsby today.
