Drama-- A decent engrossing play - A Street Car Named Desire

When I found out i had to read a dram, I was very let down. I do not like drama for the simple fact i have enough hardship and challenges in my everyday life that I feel I would not like to waste my time watching other people with their issues (soap box). When i found out the drama pod was going to be about a play I was even more let down. Then I began to read the play......
Wow, I never had any idea a play, a drama play could have engrossed me like that of the play A Street Car Named Desire. It was brilliant, it had laughs, cries, fights, thrills, mystery, and above all it had passion. I felt bad for the character named Blanche. Everyone may think she was a bad person for doing her actions but i have empathy for her. With all of what she had to endure and go through in her life she could have chose to do so many other things in order to get her miserable life off of her mind. Drugs, gambling, smoking, alcohol, you name it. Instead this lady chose to do the one thing that most people do in a much less fashion. Blanche used people to satisfy her ever desire to feel young, and also to not be alone because of all the people who walked out on her in life.
We all deal with choices and issues on a daily basis and yet look at the things we do to get other things off our minds. I say with all of the events and issues Blanche dealt was she really that horrible of a person, all she needed was someone to love her and make her wake up to the fact that they would not leave her and they were indeed in love with who she is.
Drama, a play called A Street Car Named Desire - was very exciting and in many ways a bit of a wake up call to our own everyday things we may choose to do because of the things in our past or present that bother us. What a great read, I am even going to rent the movie...!

  1. Hi!
The movie is better in my humble opinion. The book's ending left me feeling as dirty as Blanche. Ew. Can you *imagine*? While a man's wife is in the hospital giving birth to his first born son, he rapes his sister in law driving her the rest of the way to insanity? And then, fresh out of the hospital, sending her sister to an asylum..and loving on the man that sent her there?! Yuck.
But, that's just my opinion, of course. So, I'm glad you liked the book so well! I hope you enjoy the movie, too! Although, the one thing the movie needed to do was incorporate more of the "mood music" from the bar. The book did a wonderful job, the movie not so much. But I found the ending to the movie much more palatable. Have fun! Don't forget the popcorn :)
